UniKKatiL,
(born Viktor Palokaj,
March 18, 1981, and also known as Rebel a.k.a. UniKKatiL) , is an Albanian-American entertainer, rapper,
and record producer from The Bronx, New
York [1] and
originally from Pristina, Kosovo[a]. Unikkatil is best known as The
Albanian Rap Revolution,[2] the
one who changed the face of Albanian-Rap, and as the leader of T.B.A. (The
Bloody Alboz). His music career began in 2004 although in his own words he did
not take it seriously until he moved to The United States.[1] After
he moved to The Bronx, New
York, he was a member of A.B.I. (Albanian
Boys Incorporated) and later, after putting those times behind, he
started the Albanian Rap Group known as T.B.A. (The Bloody Alboz) alb: Shqipet
E Pergjakshme, with the help of: Z.E.F. and Milot, under the Conqueror Records
banner, later on rappers such as: Tee,Klepto, Presioni, Jeton & Alboholics
joined. He still continues to represent the A.B.I. although his focus is
primarily music and T.B.A.
Career
Albanian-rap used to be much different before
Unikkatil emerged. It used to be positive and was American-influenced, with
even borrowed word's such as "ghetto" and "gangsta" from
American Hip-Hop, however it virtually always delivered a positive message, and
it rarely described real Albanian lives. With Unikkatil in it however,
everything changed, apart from being explicit, his lyrics were not influenced
by American-Hiphop whatsoever, and for the first time a rapper's lyrics were
actually honest, provocative and at times offensive, to the point violence
between his supporters and enemies often exploded.[3] Unikkatil's
delivery received praise and although he gained huge numbers of fans, he also
made a lot of enemies. He is considered to be the undisputed King of Albanian
hiphop by many.[4] His
popularity had basically exploded overnight, with the release of a 2 hour long
program in the radio station known as Urban FM where he released over 15 songs
in one night, most of which were from the album "Shihemi
N'Perkujtime" with the help of the DJ known as S. Billy. He released 4
albums so far, the first one was "Shihemi
N'Perkujtime", released in 2004, second one was "Unikkatil
presents The Bloody Alboz" released in 2005, third was "Armiq't Suprem" released in 2006, and 4th
was "Kanuni I Katilit"
released in 2007 announced to have sold over 13.000 copies [5] in
the first week, and over 40.000 in the first month,[6] which
is a huge success for a small country such as Kosovo. He has also produced
Presioni's debut album "Nentori i Trete" and a few songs from
Cyanide's debut album. His music and it's heavy influence changed Albanian Rap
forever. Despite releasing four albums, a big number of other songs were
released for free under no known albums. His popularity skyrocketed with the release
of "Ju Ha Per S'gjalli" in 2006. His latest event in Frauenfeld ,
Switzerland in 2009 holds
the record for the biggest event ever held by an Albanian artist in Switzerland .
Close to 5000 people were present [7][8][9]
